Why ‘ The Sixth River ’?

In recent years we have seen a good boom of Punjabi cinema. There has been a sudden change in the quality of Punjabi films because of films like ‘Jee Ayan Nu’, ’Asan Nu Maan Watna Da’, ’Shahide Mohobbat’ and ‘Des Hoya Pardes’. However, it still leaves a lot to be desired in portraying the Sikh way of life. So the desire to portray Sikhs correctly in cinema is increasing.

Based on the existing trade analysis and the revolution in Punjabi cinema, Punjabi films have a huge market. But the issues dear to every Punjabi’s heart have been ignored for a long time in Punjabi Cinema. With The Sixth River we not only explore the lives of the Punjabis living in the land of five rivers, Punjab, but also the lives of the all those Punjabis who in the form of the sixth river have prospered all over the world. The film tries to show another dimension of Punjab that transcends the normal ‘makki di roti, sarson da saag’, bhangra and gidda image and travels into the true socio-economic-political structure of Punjab .
